Hats. Hats and Hats

 Have gradually been getting back into the swing of things. I've been getting caught up on projects and managing to stay focused a bit more. Still looking for that magic way to STAY FOCUSED. Basically I have way to many ideas milling around in my head at all times. That is the end of my Whinging about Focus for this post. (Whinging is one of my favourite British words)

For the month of May Hats will be my focus. Hats are an obsession recently be it sewing them for other people, making them for dolls or acquiring a new one for myself. Hats can also have so many accessories themselves- hatboxes, feathers, hatbands, hatpins, hat stands. The goal of May is to create an item related to a hat or a hat itself each day of May. Some will be for humans, some for dolls and perhaps even some for my dog. 

For the last bit I have been experimenting with 3D prints of crowns in a variety of sizes and styles. The nylon filiment constantly prints with fine strings on the crowns but it just adds for some creativity potential. I have been doing some troubleshooting to correct this problem but I also kinda like the effect. Am considering adding some spiders to complete the cobweb effect, those crowns could be the perfect addition to a more sinister doll. So far I have much better luck using PLA filiment or Eco Abs filiment. The world of 3D printing is a newer interest of mine and there is a lot to learn.

Another goal this month is to update this blog as it has sat neglected for quite a while. My creative output has definitely changed since moving to Seattle so a reboot of everything is necessary.

May 21 - Crocheted cuff made with handdyed local alpaca and vintage buttons

May 22 - Fibre Cuff made with felt/yarns/beads and hand stitching

May 23 - Necklace on simple silk cord - pendant made from mirror,wire, beads and metal ring

May 24 - Vintage Fabric headband

May 25 - Stretch Velour headband - a bit of a cheat  as here it is just a strip of fabric (but it worked really well to help tame my hair) Will probably modify it by adding some trim/embellishment

Well it was as I suspected it was a week of accessories. I will attempt to switch it up a bit more for the last 6 days.

So here is the first part of the month for the MMMay ' 12 Challenge. You may have noticed a fondness for headbands. This is due to the weather which makes for frizzy hair and the fact that it is  time to do a hair dye touchup. The picture taking has been part of the challenge. I find the clothing/accessories show up best not on ME, and it is a definite challenge to take a decent picture of yourself. 

Saturday Morning

So I came into the store this morning and we had forgotten to empty the coffee pot and put the filter in the compost pail. Well the filter was just begging to be made into something it had dried so beautifully. So I made a boutineer. AM starting to suspect that I have a thing for garbage created from coffee.

-Meet Betty The Yeti. She is the start of a monthly challenge to create a limited series of monsters every month. Probably going to do editions of 6 and try to keep the cost between $15-$20. This one was inspired by a sweater I picked up at a thrift store and went 'Cool it's a Yeti Sweater' - remember the sweater in the movie "About A Boy'. Also I had just received an email from Urban Threads lately with some new monster embroidery patterns. So thus Betty the Yeti was created, shes works at a spaghetti orchard. So now what to do for March, I have some ideas floating about in my mind
